My mom has been cooking with Dole canned fruit since I can remember, from garnishes to salads to desserts. So I was so excited for to shop at Safeway for Dole canned fruit to make Teriyaki Burgers!
The are five Safeways in our area but we went to the one my family has always called the “Big” Safeway, the most centrally located one.
Dole tropical canned fruit were on sale with your Safeway Club Card…
…so I stocked up! I hope to try out some of my mom’s recipes as well as try this Teriyaki burger recipe.
We haven’t had chicken burgers in a while, so I grabbed two pounds of that, plus buns, cheese, ginger, panko breadcrumbs and teriyaki sauce. Please visit my Google+ album to see more of my shopping trip for Dole Tropical Fruit at Safeway.
We thought we’d grill up these burgers along with some vegetables and have a meal on the lighter side.
First, I made the marinade for the teriyaki burgers. I opened a can of the Dole Pineapple Slices,
and poured the juice in a bowl along with some teriyaki sauce.
I reserved some of the mixture on the side, and added the ground chicken to the remaining mixture. Plus I grated in some ginger…
and added the panko breadcrumbs.
I folded everything together, and shaped them into patties. I had bought some sweet Hawaiian rolls for my girls, so we thought we’d make some little sliders for them along with our regular-sized patties. My husband fired up the grill and placed the patties on.
Here are the rest of the reserved pineapple juice/teriyaki sauce mixture, and the pineapple slices, standing by!
He brushed the patties with the juice/sauce mixture.
Along with some vegetables, we grilled the pineapple slices. My husband mentioned they were a little bit thin for the grill, but you can’t beat the convenience, and they taste really good.
Just throwing on a few more veggies and dinner’s ready.
Yum. A really tasty, out-of-the-ordinary dinner.
The pineapple was so sweet, and went great with the ginger and teriyaki flavors.
I didn’t take a picture, but last night I took a frozen cheese pizza, cut up a leftover chicken burger patty, some leftover pineapple (by some miracle, I didn’t snack on it all night!) and added those to the cheese pizza as toppings along with a little bit more shredded cheese. So this recipe goes a long way! And as mentioned, I hope to share with you in the future sometime my mom’s other recipes using Dole tropical fruit!
